Angarin: The Escape Sample

Hello readers. As many of you know by now, Angarin: The Escape, my first novel, is well on it's way to being funded through Kickstarter. I have written up several plot descriptions recently but still, it's tough to stake your money in something you haven't seen before. My prologue was up before but it was rough at best, I'm the first to admit that. So today, I want to share the first almost final preview of Angarin: The Escape. I hope you enjoy it and will check out my Kickstarter link here and consider backing this project. Thanks everyone.

Angarin: The Escape Kickstarter is LIVE!

Hey everyone. I apologize for not having posted anything here in quite some time. I have actually been working on a few short stories that haven't been posted but most of my time has gone to working on my first novel, Angarin: The Escape, which I posted a very early look at several months ago on this blog.

Angarin is a dystopian science fiction trilogy about a group of kids who decide to reject the totalitarian oppression brought on by their oppressive government Arx. Angarin is the name of a walled-off city where nobody alive inside has ever seen the world outside the walls. The city is broken up into five sectors with a giant tower in the middle, watching over all five sectors. Movement between the sectors is strictly controlled and nobody is allowed to cross unless it is for the benefit of Angarin. In this city, you don't get to choose your job, your home or even your spouse. All of your choices are made for you by the Arx.

Zack is a high schooler who dreams of joining the Red Stars, the military force of Angarin. When a group of kids show up talking about another way of life where everyone gets to decide for themselves how they live, Zack is thrust headfirst into a rebellion he isn't sure he believes in. As they struggle to recruit fellow freedom fighters in a world that watches their every move, Zack has to decide which side of the fence he stands. There can be no indecision when they try to be the first people ever to escape from Angarin.

Things are going very well with Angarin but now, I need your help. If you have not heard of Kickstarter before, it is a website that allows people to post projects that they are working on in order to fundraise. This is not a donation service though, backers of projects receive rewards for helping out including but not limited to the product they are backing, memorabilia, bonus material, access to production blogs, etc. Angarin: The Escape's Kickstarter is no different. For your help, I am offering first-edition signed copies of the whole Angarin trilogy as it is released in physical or e-book form, access to a first-look blog that will give you a behind the scenes look at Angarin's creation, a digital collection of short stories both from this blog and many never before read stories, a novella about the beginnings of Angarin and possibly even more as the month goes on.

I need your help but I'm not expecting donations. Backing this project now means that you will receive my book plus bonus materials that are either cheaper than they will be later or may never be offered again. I hope that you will consider backing the future of Angarin: The Escape

Haunted

Hello everyone,

This actually isn't a totally new story, but is actually an updated version of Memories, from before. It has a new, much better title as well as 33% changed content. I believe the flow is much better and the story ultimately makes more sense. I hope that you enjoy the story and, as always, feel free to let me know of any critiques or comments you have about the story. Thank you!

Times they are a'changin'

Hey everyone,

I know it's been a long time since my last story, I just wanted to let you know I have not forgotten this blog. I'm currently working on something quite different from my last stuff that simply doesn't belong on this blog (since it's not a short story or really prose at all). Anyway, with that and finals coming up, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get started on another short. I'll let you know. Thanks for reading!

Soul's Death

Here is my next short story, Soul's Death. Despite the name, it's actually not gruesome or anything. It's a hard science fiction story set far in the future where space travel to other solar systems is really becoming viable. It is a mystery, too, as you, along with Dr. Fredericks, are trying to figure out what happened to the ill-fated flight of the spaceship Geror. Finally, it will make you question what truly makes a person, a person. I hope you enjoy Soul's Death as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Soul's Death

EDIT 3/20/11: I just posted a heavily revised version of Soul's Death. It's still in rough draft status, as with most of my stories, but I feel it's a substantial enough edit to warrant a second look. Thank you for reading!

Memories

Hello readers,

I apologize for the long wait for my next story. Manus Deis didn't turn out quite how I wanted it to so I went another direction. Instead, I have written a story called Memories. It's quite a bit different from other things that I have written and I'm curious to hear what you have to say.

As always, PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS! I know more people read these than comment here (since nobody has ever commented on this blog...) or anywhere else for that matter. I love hearing from you in person but in lieu of that, please comment or contact me in some way. It helps me improve as a writer when I hear from my readers what works and what doesn't. It's very important to me. Thank you.

Now without further adieu,

Memories

If you have any questions or complaints, let me know. Also, if you are new to this blog, check out my previous post to see links to all my other stories that I have posted here.

Thanks for reading!

Still Here!

Hello readers!

Sorry about the lack of any new writings in recent weeks, I fear that the holidays have made me busier than ever, ironically enough. This is actually my first time using my laptop since I came back home in mid-December. However, I want to reassure you that this blog has not been forgotten!

I am currently working on the project I mentioned in my last blog post which is coming along well. I realized that it's slightly more ambitious than I first realized so it may not be up for a while now. I will tease you though with the title, Manus Dei. That may seem like nonsense but sometimes, google translator can be your best friend =).

Another realization that I made was that, much to my delight, many more people are reading this blog than I thought would. I want to give a shout out to Tucker who linked my blog to his which has directed several people here. Thanks Tucker! For those of you who are reading this that may not have realized this, I have actually written several stories and posted them here. You can find any of them under the subheading labeled Blog Archive over on the sidebar for this blog. They should be organized by month. However, for your convenience, here are links to all of my stories I have posted so far.
